Chief of Environmental Health – Expert Medical Entomologist – Public Health Directorate – Ministry of Health – Kingdom of Bahrain
Raja Redha Alsaloom holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Bahrain and a Master’s degree in Biology and Control of Parasites and Disease Vectors from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool, UK. Her dissertation, ‘Identification and Distribution of Medically Important Mosquitoes in the Kingdom of Bahrain,’ filled a critical research gap since the last study conducted in 1978.
Since joining the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Directorate – Environmental Health Section in 2005, Alsaloom has held various positions, including Head of Entomology. She currently serves as Chief of the Environmental Health Section.
Alsaloom has organised and participated in numerous professional training sessions and workshops on vector control and entomology. Notably, she provided technical support for three years to train specialists in Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health as part of the GCC Initiative for a Malaria-Free Arabian Peninsula.
She also serves as the Ministry of Health’s focal point with the World Health Organization (WHO) on environmental health, malaria and vector control, and water sanitation and safety. Additionally, Alsaloom has served as a Temporary Technical Advisor for Medical Entomology and Vector Control at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO).
