Professor of Insect Control and NAMRU EAC entomology Consultant
Dr. Alia worked for over 15 years at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit EURAFCENT (formerly NAMRU-3) since 2008, along with her academic affiliation. She ran over 20 projects and lead vector-borne disease outbreak investigations in several countries in the Middle East, East and West Africa in collaboration with international organizations.
Dr. Alia holds BSc. and MSc. from the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, and PhD in Applied Entomology from Hohenheim University, Germany. She was specialized in insect biological control. She earned the Professorship in insect control in 2013 from Cairo University.
Dr. Alia Zayed joined the Vector Control Advisory Group of WHO, as temporary consultant in 2019, and was among the TDR consultants’ group working on the Sterile Insect Technique guidance. She supported vector-related trainings during the West African Aedes Surveillance Network (WAASuN)’ in Cote D’Ivoire and the Africa Malaria Task Force (AMTF) in Ghana. Currently, she leads and supports the entomology surveillance in Djibouti, Jordan and Yemen
